The 5 Best Social Media Strategies And Why They Work

  • March 18, 2015

We make great websites for our clients. Naturally, we want those websites to be seen. What better way to get the word out than the number one form of entertainment online? Social media is the key to marketing success.

Here are five social media strategies we support.

Hone in on trends.

Capitalizing on topics that people are already buzzing about, putting your own company’s twist on each event, is one of the strongest ways to get your content noticed. Social networks are optimized for the events that everyone is already discussing – covering those is a quick hack to enabling your content for competitive placement, and therefore getting it noticed.

An image with every post (GIFs are even better!)

Engaging images paired with each post you release will increase your click rate monumentally; this is a finding that’s been echoed by many of the most prominent sources on the matter, and one that we should all be taking advantage of. Even when you can’t seem to find an image that feels appropriate for your sentiment, there are ways to sneak them in. Give the post a funny angle and include a humorous GIF; provide your viewers with valuable information via engaging graphs/maps. The possibilities are endless.

Don’t be afraid to re-share content!

Many companies are concerned about boring their existing audience by re-posting the same content. However, if you take a look at the social media accounts of prominent publications you’ll find that they are indeed guilty of the behavior, and for good reason: re-sharing content gives it twice, sometimes three times, the chance of drawing the eye of the people it missed the first two. Try to post three or four times, at different hours on different days. This is also a great way to decipher when your particular audience is most active.

The perfect positioning for your social share buttons.

Ah, button positioning; AKA a marketer’s nightmare. The most important rules for social share buttons is that they are colorful, large and functional. Placement itself, though, is a bit more nuanced; your best bet is to have an option at the top of your page, the bottom and somewhere in between.

Keep the hashtags and emoticons at a minimum.

When crafting social media posts, it’s tempting to go all out; hashtags are, after all, the best way to get your content out in the world and viewed, right? But viewers are averse to too many hashtags; more than three, it seems, is distracting and almost desperate, stripping your company’s account of perceived legitimacy and validity.
