One of the best ways to render a process more efficient is to automate it; as a matter of fact, the only way to make any process more efficient than automation is to eradicate it entirely. Sometimes, though, a process is too vital to the workings of a business to put to bed, no matter how time-consuming it has become. This is especially true when it comes to client-business communication.

When a company specializing in arborists’ duties approached us to convert their existing client interaction process into a well-oiled machine, we knew automation would be an important first step. Throughout development, we’d also provide them a solid, functional admin panel. We also knew we wanted to design an iOS app that would look similar to the company’s existing site design.

So..what does an arborist do?

We began, as per usual, by researching the industry; arborist duties, after all, are less than mainstream. Once we were comfortable with the field and the way it should be portrayed we started in on development, multiple team members tackling a few modules at a time.

In a number of weeks we created the admin panel we thought would be most optimum, sorted the order of dynamic fields, modified the reporting database to support a log of “job status” features for purchases made by both the crew and technicians and built a search/report function for all personnel.

We went on to develop a complete mobile version of the front end crew/technicians panel of initially created on the company’s web site, optimizing entirely with mobile/iPhone/iPad-friendly layouts.

To this day we do not claim to be experts in the field of the arborist, but we do know that the app we created fulfilled a multitude of needs for anyone in the industry.

We’re also slightly more knowledgable when it comes to shrubs.
