Google Classroom API
Google Classroom API developed by Google is a free web service for schools that aims to simplify creating, distributing, and grading assignments in a paperless way. Its primary purpose is to streamline the files sharing process between teachers and students in an extremely friendly manner.
It was announced on May 6, 2014, with a preview availability for some member of Google G Suite for Education program and released publicly on August 12, 2014. Later in 2015 Google announced classroom API and a share button for websites. In its last update of 2019, Google introduced 78 new illustrated themes and drag-drop options for topics and assignments in the classwork section.
How Google Classroom API works
Google Classroom API combines Google Drive for creating and distributing assignments, Google Docs, Sheets and Slides for writing, communication through Gmail, and Google Calendar for scheduling. Students can be invited to join a class, or import from the school domain, etc. Each class creates a separate folder in the user’s Drive where the student can submit work to be graded. Its iOS and Android mobile apps are available for uses to take photos and attach to assignments as well as share files from other apps.
Teachers can monitor students’ progress as well as give comments on the work of students.
Features include assignments, grading, communication, originality report, archive course, mobile applications, and privacy.
